From: Lisa W. To: The Las Vegas Sun My daughter was seen by a dentist in our home town on June 16th and had 3 fillings put in. He told her that her mouth might be sore for a few days. So, when she said it was sore, neither of us thought that was unusual. My daughter and I flew down to Las Vegas on Friday, June 17th. By Saturday she was in such pain and her jaw was so swollen that we went to an emergency care clinic. (Since the fillings, she had not been able to eat anything except for very soft foods.) By the time we were done with the emergi-care it was close to 4pm. The emergi-care told us that there was some necrosis (which I thought was a problem, but later learned that wasn't truly an issue) and prescribed her Penicillin. They also said that there was not much they could really do for her since she needed to see a dental professional. So, while she was finishing up with the doctor, I took the phone book and started calling every dentist and endodontist listed. Very few returned the call. Of the ones that did call back, most asked whether she was a regular patient. When I reminded them that we were from out of town, they said that they couldn't even make an appointment until Monday. Finally, one excellent doctor returned my call, personally: Dr. Nishan Odabashian. When I explained what was going on he said don't bother with the Penicillin, because it won't address the issue. He said that he would open his office to see my daughter, so we took a cab out to his office in the suburbs of Las Vegas. Of course, mind you he was working without a dental assistant, his office personnel were not in and so naturally it was difficult to find all the paperwork, etc. that his employees would normally take care of. He worked on my daughter's mouth for about 4 hours on a Saturday night, the night before Father's Day, no less. What an incredibly great guy! He removed the filling, and all the while he was working he was explaining exactly what he was doing. My daughter is very fearful of dental work and the doctor told her he couldn't work when her hands were clenched so tightly. He put her completely at ease. Once the filling was removed, he said that he could see that the dentist had not even removed all of the decay. In addition, if he had, then he would have seen that the nerve was dead and therefore, the tooth required a root canal. Dr. Odabashian uses digital microscopes and radiography to do his work. I want the people of Las Vegas to know what a great ambassador Dr. Odabashian is for your community. If anyone in your community needs an endodontist, I don't believe they could find a finer one than Dr. Odabashian. The best Endodontist I have ever met |
